Believe it or not, if you want to connect a Bluetooth device to the CS1, you’ll need to grab something thin and pointy and use it to press the button that’s hidden in the hole. Paul cued up the American bluesman’s rendition of “Sweet Georgia Brown” and played it through the Kin Play system using the wired connection to the DragonFly Red. A compact, minimalist design, the NAD CS1 has a pair of line-level analogue RCA outputs for connection to a stereo receiver, integrated amp, preamplifier, or a pair of powered speakers. They have no control at all because even if the CS1 has been added to Google Home, that app thinks of the CS1 as a Chromecast device and it won’t understand that the CS1 is in the middle of playing an AirPlay 2 session. Paul also plays music from his iPhone through an AudioQuest DragonFly Red micro-DAC that’s connected to the 3.

This ensures that you can enjoy your music collection in its purest form, with every nuance and subtlety faithfully reproduced. I connected the CS1’s analog outputs to RCA jacks on the Sony receiver to check if there was a sonic difference between the CS1’s analog and digital outputs in Ian’s system. As I mentioned above, there’s no remote control and no infrared receiver, so it doesn’t need to be visible for line-of-sight control. The CS1 supports the most popular network streaming and casting protocols, including Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, DLNA mobile and computer apps*, and Roon, so you can control playback with the music apps you use every day. The NAD CS1 is simple network streamer that will add streaming capability to most hi-fi amplifiers either via it’s analogue RCA or digital outputs.

However, the irritating part is that it is randomly changing the volume, hence the quiet event, and the recent failure to work at all. Unfortunately, Bubble did not recognize the CS1 as a DLNA-compatible device, so it defaulted back to Chromecast. If you have a sound system you love, but it comes from the pre-music streaming era, attaching a network streamer is a plug-and-play way to drag it into the 21st century. Streaming has profoundly altered the way people discover and experience music,” said Cas Oostvogel, Product Manager of NAD Electronics. Sonos and Bluesound support AirPlay 2, while Denon Heos, Bose, and Wiim support both AirPlay 2 and Chromecast audio. The CS1 can be used as part of a multiroom system, but only through third-party software: Apple Home if you’re exclusively running AirPlay 2 speakers and Google Home if all of your gear is Chromecast-compatible. I streamed a 24/96 FLAC version of the same song to the CS1 from the Qobuz app on my iPhone 14 via Chromecast. Pretty much every format you could want, except DSD, which I have to say, is really disappointing given NAD’s audiophile fan base. So… finally getting to the point… Is there an app for iOS and Windows to enable me to stream music from the Uniti Core to the CS1? If that’s you, know that any potential audible lift might be scuppered by the presence/quality of switching regulators inside the unit.

looks like it's designed to take Spotify mobile app users through the quick process of understanding what Spotify HiFi is, how it works, and how to know if they're actually getting the higher-quality lossless audio stream on their device. It supports Google Chromecast, so you can transfer playback from any Cast-enabled audio app; and Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, so you can cue up music in the apps for those services, and then transfer playback to the CS1. Unlike the CS1, the Node doesn’t support Chromecast, but it does support AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect; and it’s Roon Ready. As well, digital output is bit perfect allowing you to use DAC of your choice to get full streaming functionality. That means listeners don’t have to install a dedicated app to use the CS1; they can control playback with the music apps they use every day. There will be other people here who have experience of doing this, so I suggest hang on for a bit and see who responds. It can be operated using the NAD BluOS Controller app, available for both iOS and Android devices, providing a user-friendly interface t

The NAD T778 features the latest developments in NAD’s Hybrid Digital technology to create 9 high current/high power channels of amplification with improved efficiency. Once that accreditation is secured, perhaps a NAD firmware update for the CS1 will resolve the hanging app issue… maybe. The soundstage was more two-dimensional, and Mehldau’s touch on the piano was not as clearly conveyed. It supports resolution up to 24-bit/192kHz and has MQA pass-through support for both digital outputs, enabling full decoding and rendering by a compatible external DAC for playing Master Quality Authenticated music.I’ve just loaded the linn kazoo app (which is about to be retired apparently) and it can see these in my house so maybe it can see a core as well. A compact, minimalist design, the NAD CS1 has a pair of line-level analogue RCA outputs for connection to a stereo receiver, integrated amp, preamplifier, or a pair of powered speakers. And it works with the BluOS app, which has integrated support for more than 20 streaming services, including several that offer lossless and hi-rez audio.
