Description

The DadPad was created because babies don’t come with a set of instructions, and dads told us they wanted important information on what to expect and how to care for their baby. Once the app is installed, enter your postcode when prompted and select your local area or hospital. There is also a resource for co-parents (LGBTQ+ non-birthing parents) being prepared by DadPad and available to new and expectant families in Stoke in early 2023. The DadPad app is a useful resource before baby arrives and after baby is born, and is designed to be used as a quick, on-the-go reference tool, allowing new dads to enjoy their babies and feel more confident about fatherhood.

Being a parent of a child in neonatal care can come with a lot of other emotions and problems to deal with, and DadPad Neonatal can offer additional help and support. Crucially, the app provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when needed) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles. Whether you are about to become a dad for the first time, or want to ensure that you can still cover all bases with a new addition to your family, the DadPad is the low-cost, high-value resource that you will want to have within arm’s reach at all times.Being rolled out as part of the UK’s Maternity Transformation Programme’s Better Birth’s Strategy, the information and signposting you get will be local to your NHS Trust or relevant Health Authority. This will help us to ensure it’s a helpful resource, inform any changes and keep it up-to-date with what's important to local dads. Emotional health and wellbeing issues can arise during pregnancy and in the period following the birth of a baby in both mum and dad. We listened to what dads, their partners and professionals asked for and combined it all in this new ‘DadPad’.

By building confidence, helping dads engage with their baby’s development and be a supportive co-parent the DadPad can help children and families across the city. When dads across Cornwall were asked what would help them in their new role as a father, they asked for a ‘Dad Pad’. There are also details of local support groups for new dads and sources of help available in Kent and Medway.

Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens. Your local maternity services have partnered up with DadPad to provide free access to the tailored app for Dads in Kent and Medway. As new UK NHS Trusts or relevant Health Authorities adopt the DadPad® App, more locations will appear, as will new up-to-date information and features such as explanatory animations and videos. Kate Cox, Head of Universal Services at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are committed to continually improving the maternity experience for families in Stoke-on-Trent so that every child gets the best start in life, so we are delighted to support this fantastic new resource. This easy-to-use resource for new dads and dads-to-be will give you the practical skills and knowledge you need to create a special bond with your baby and give them the best start in life.

This will help individuals to better cope with the physical and emotional strains that fatherhood can place on individuals and relationships. The DadPad] is about Dads being prepared for some of that tension and strain of being a new parent, but without being overwhelmed and knowing that it’s not just mums who can access the help and advice that’s available, even if they don’t live with their partner. To complement the original DadPad® set of Cards, the DadPad® has now been developed further as an App to act as an on-the-go supportive guide.

Caroline Saywood, Local Maternity and Neonatal System Lead Digital Midwife said, 'Whether you’re a first-time dad or a fifth time dad, being a parent is a constant education where we have to keep learning. As well as providing general information to fathers and families, the DadPad has been customised to include local Stoke-on-Trent support groups and services, along with links to the Stoke-on-Trent Community Directory which is regularly updated. Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said: “I am thrilled that the city council has been able to work with the team at DadPad to launch this fantastic free app in Stoke-on-Trent.

The DadPad is best utilised as early as possible during pregnancy, around birth and beyond, and provides guidance for babies and children up to the age of two. If your area doesn’t have a button, let us know and we’ll make contact with those who can make it happen! Devon County Council is responsible for the writing, publishing and updating of the content on this page. Traditionally, lots of information, advice and support is female-focused, but partners can feel equally unsure or overwhelmed.Julia Burrows, Director for Public Health and Communities, said: “It’s brilliant to see the broad range of support available to new parents is continually growing in our borough, supporting families to navigate this new chapter in their lives. Rowena Chilton, Head of Midwifery at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, said: 'It’s fantastic news that DadPad has launched across our maternity services. The DadPad’s aim is to provide new fathers with guidance on how to develop the mindset, confidence and practical skills needed to meet their babies’ physical and emotional needs. Crucially, the app provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when required) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles.
