This dramatic tall clump forming bamboo has very striking, beautiful black stems and is easily maintained. Our favourite bamboo plant for this purpose is the Phyllostachys bissetii which can reach 3 metres (sometimes even 5 metres) in height if not pruned. These robust bamboo screens are standard available in different sizes and can also be easily shortened if necessary (both at the bottom and sides). Black bamboo is extremely fast-growing so it is best planted in a spacious area, allowing it to spread. Bamboo screening idea: attach to the top of a pergola to create a relaxing, shaded area for when it all gets a bit too hot!

To enable personalised advertising (like interest-based ads), we may share your data with our marketing and advertising partners using cookies and other technologies. Like Homatz’s fencing, the bamboo slats are tied together with a strong metal wire which ensures the fencing remains durable over a long period of time. The first use of structural bamboo in the United Kingdom was at the Gorilla Kingdom in London Zoo, designed by Proctor and Matthews. As a bonus, it releases 35 percent more oxygen into the atmosphere than other plants, helping us solve the global warming epidemic. Bamboo is a natural product and due to the UK’s wet weather bamboo may develop mould or a slight discolouration.

Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. There are plenty of ways bamboo can be used as screening and one of the best ways is to use bamboo screening plants. Every pattern in the range has been carefully crafted to allow the design to flow from one screen to the next, making it almost impossible to see where one screen ends and another begins. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag.

Whilst we would recommend using actual bamboo plants and creating a hedge to achieve a thick bamboo screening, if you’re looking for a thick, solid bamboo option then the slatted screening by Farm and Garden might be a good option. Far from the standard bamboo screens, the poles have a diameter of 20/30mm, making the screen robust and attractive. These fence screens are constructed with half-round poles (approx 6-8 cm width), bamboo slats and natural black palm rope. Whilst these are two options, really, this screening has a number of uses – you’ll only be limited by your creativity! Our rails are manufactured using marine grade Aluminium profiles, that are super strong with a sleek modern design.

You will need to attach wooden battens to your wall first, ensuring these are perpendicular to the bamboo.

One of our favourite types of bamboo screening, this slat (or split) fencing by Papillon is made of high quality bamboo and looks fantastic in the garden. Made out of sturdy, solid bamboo, the fencing comes in rolls of 2m x 3m and is great for covering up unsightly areas of the garden. If the fence is owned by a neighbour you will need to seek their permission to attach anything to it. Per Metre' column, you will find our recommended plant density for each individual plant species and root type. Climate change has been an issue for several years, which is why bamboo could be included as a certified hardwood.Far from the standard bamboo screens, the poles have a diameter of 25/35mm, making the screen robust and attractive. Bamboo screening or fencing is sure to spruce up your garden with an exotic yet relaxing look and feel. At 4m in height, it’s perfect for any area of the garden as it can easily cover unsightly fencing, boring looking walls or simply be used to give your garden a tropical feel. Wipe clean with a soft dry cloth or duster, avoid any abrasives or potentially harmful cleaning products. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions.

Bamboo is increasingly being used in the construction sector due to its strength and eco-friendly credentials. Each slat is positioned closely together but as the bamboo isn’t all that thick, opacity isn’t the greatest.Treat with wood preservative or varnish for extra protection (clear silicone mastic works for small diameter poles). Of course, if you want to customise the colour of your screening then painting it might be the best option. If you treat the bamboo poles with an oil or lacquer, the number of cracks will be less than if you do not apply a protective layer.
